Alta’s Kitchen is a hidden gem serving good food on Main Street in New Hope! My Name is Robert Kingsland, I am the founder of Alta’s Kitchen, and I love to cook.

Some of my fondest memories are of my grandmother, Alta, cooking for me and my family when we visited her in Mountain Top, PA. For seven years, my parents would take vacations, and my brother and I would spend a week in Mountain Top.

It was during these weeks that I truly saw my grandmother in action—baking breads, cookies, and preparing Sunday meals of Yorkshire pudding and pot roast, or simply serving cold cuts and fresh-baked bread with beautiful slaw and potato and egg salad that was impossible to stop eating.

At six years old, she put my hands in flour, and that’s when I saw the magic—doughs transforming into chocolate cake, white bread, and cookies of every kind. I especially loved her Welsh cookies! I remember making banana bread the day before, toasting it, and dunking it into a glass of pure milk—delivered at dawn in glass bottles with the cream on top. It was a magical time.

I am so excited to be here. I fell in love with New Hope, PA, a few years ago—the surrounding farms, the history, and the people along the Delaware River. I look forward to cooking for you and meeting you at 32 S. Main Street!
